How to avoid under-eye circles
Dark circles under eyes are one of the things we all get from time to time. A bad night's sleep or feeling a little run down can lead to dark circles and, let's be honest, they can be very unflattering! But are they just a fact of life or can we do anything to get rid of them?
Well here are our top tips to fresher, brighter eyes!
Get some sleep
When we're tired our eyes are a dead give-away. If you've had a heavy night or you've not slept well, the next day you're eyes will be dark, puffy and heavy. As such the most obvious way of avoiding under-eye circles is to make sure you get a good nights sleep. If you struggle to sleep try giving yourself a bedtime routine, have a hot milky drink, put your favourite pyjamas on and read a good book. Don't do anything taxing before bed, try to relax as much as possible.
Take vitamins
Often dark circles are a result of being run down or having a vitamin deficiency. A lack of vitamin A, B, C and E especially will cause dark circles so take a supplement. If you feel particularly run down you should speak to your doctor to make sure there is not a more serious problem.
Elevate your head
It's a strange one but elevating your head while you sleep can help to reduce puffiness around the eyes as it stops fluid collecting. Sleep with a couple of pillows rather than sleeping flat.
Cucumber
Placing something cooling on your eyes will help to reduce puffiness and can help to remove dark circles. Cucumbers or wet teabags are a good solution. Lie down and place them on your eyes for half and hour and your eyes will look fresher and brighter.
Use a concealer
OK, so masking the problem may not be a complete cure but it's a good solution if you're looking for a quick fix. Many people get concealer wrong by choosing the wrong shade. Your concealer should be a shade lighter than your skin tone and foundation. Using a dark or heavy concealer can actually make dark circles look worse.
Opt for a creamy concealer as it will be easier to apply. Apply under the eye and add a few dots up to the brow bone to act as a highlighter.
