How to keep your hands young
You can do all you like to keep yourself looking young but if you neglect to look after your hands they are always going to provide a clue to your real age. Keep your hands looking young – and your secret safe – with these handy hints.
Moisturise
When our skin loses moisture it can become tight and dry and as it tightens it loses its elasticity. This can result in our skin sagging. We know this is true of the skin on our faces and as such most of us use a facial moisturiser every day. But do you do the same for your hands? Moisturising your hands is crucial if you want them to stay looking young. Invest in a good hand moisturiser and use throughout the day whenever your hands feel dry and tight.
Use lightening creams for brown spots
Brown spots on the skin are caused by sun damage. They may not come out in the skin until later in life, which is why you may not realise, you’re getting them while you’re in the sun! While you’re younger you can protect yourself from these by wearing a high factor sun-cream (many people forget to apply sun-cream to their hands) and limit your exposure to the sun.
When you’re older and you already have brown spots (or sun spots) on your hands you should invest in a lightening cream to reduce them. There are plenty of lightening creams on the market, ask at your local beauty or health store.
Use retinol creams to boost collagen
As we age our skin loses its plumpness and it is for this reason that our hands can start to look really wrinkly. The skin on our hands starts to thin and sag and as such our hands can be a giveaway sign of our age. This is because we have lost the collagen in our skin that we had when we were younger. You can combat this though by using a cream with retinol in. This helps to restore the collagen in your skin and plumps it up again.
Wear rubber gloves when doing chores
Doing chores is a part of life we’d all like to be able to avoid but few of us can. Unfortunately our hands would rather we could avoid them too. Doing chores like washing up or working in the garden can have detrimental effects on our hands. Short of shelling out for a housemaid to do all these things for us the best thing we can do is wear good quality rubber gloves to protect our hands as we work.
