Holiday beauty SOS

Ah it's summer holiday time at last. Time to take a break from the, ahem, unpredictable weather in the United Kingdom and head off to sunnier climes. After weeks wrapped up in your winter clothes (despite the fact they should have been packed away long ago) you're ready to become the beach goddess you always knew you could be.

You can see it now. Strolling along a white sandy beach, glistening bronzed skin shimmering in the sun shine, big bouncy beach hair like something out of a magazine and a glowing complexion – the kind that makes you look super healthy without the tiniest scrap of make-up. You're going to feel fantastic.

Unfortunately things don't always go to plan and that fabulous beach babe you picture ends up having pasty, patchy skin and a head of hair so frizzled by the sun and the chlorine you can barely get a comb through it let alone tease it into luscious bouncy waves.

But worry not, here are our top tips on how to avert those three big holiday beauty disasters.

Uneven skin tone
Holidays are a tricky one when it comes to make-up. You're fine of an evening when you can wear your usual slap and look uber-glam but during the day you want to look good to – especially if you're off on a day trip or doing a spot of shopping. But the heat means foundation is a no no and besides you want to look fresh faced, not heavily made up. Unfortunately your skin looks far from fresh after last night's partying and the slight sun burn on your nose is not exactly the all over glow you were expecting. This is where BB creams come in. These fantastic creams act as a foundation, concealer and moisturiser all in one and are as light as a feather!

Unruly holiday hair
You wanted sexy, beach waves; you got wirey, dry, scraggly hair. It's a common problem. The combination of hot weather and chlorine in the pool can leave your hair feeling and looking pretty dreadful. Thankfully there's a solution for this. Specialist holiday shampoos are designed to help your hair combat the affects of the beach, pool and heat, leaving it looking and feeling fantastic. What's more, most of the big brands have their own version.

Ghostly white skin
When you picture yourself strutting your stuff in your bikini you're a bronzed beauty queen. Unfortunately the reality is, after months of keeping yourself covered up in layers of warm clothing your skin is far from glowing. Well, that's easily fixed. On the run up to your holiday trade you usual moisturiser in for a gradual-tan moisturiser. It'll still give you soft and supple skin but it will also slowly build up a beautiful, natural-looking tan.
