Top dieting tips
As the warmer weather starts making an appearance our thoughts naturally turn to the terrifying idea of skimpy summer dresses and tiny bikinis. After months of being able to wrap up in layers and hide any unforgiving lumps and bumps, the warm weather just reminds us that it’s time to get in shape for summer.
It’s no surprise then that many women start a diet in the spring – the promise of warmer days finally spurring them into action.
But often the thought of beaches and bikinis is still not enough to keep us going. Willpower wanes and suddenly it all becomes too much and we give up.
Thankfully we’ve put together a selection of tips to help you stay on track.
Keep a food diary
It sounds very simply but keeping a food diary really can inspire you to stick with your diet. A food diary allows you to see where you might be going wrong and make amends. Doing this helps you to lose those first few pound and before you know it you’re well on your way to your goal and feeling positive and happy.
Choose a flexible plan
One of the main reasons people slip up on diets is they opt for a plan that is too rigid for their lifestyle and, once they realise they can’t adapt it, they decide to pack it in altogether. Opt for a plan that allows some flexibility so that going out for a friend’s birthday occasionally won’t be the end of the world.
Don’t give up at the first mistake
Another reason many people throw in the towel is that they slip up once and then think ‘what’s the point now?’ But just because you make one mistake doesn’t mean you might as well give up all together! Simply put it down as a mistake and carry on. Have 20 days dieting with one mistake during those days is much better than having two days dieting, making a mistake then going back to eating unhealthily.
Get a diet buddy
Just like working out is more fun when you have a friend to do it with you, dieting is much easier when you’re not alone. Get a diet buddy to help you on your way. Whether that means dieting with a friend who also wants to lose weight, joining a slimming club with like-minded people or even just joining a weight loss chatroom where you can share your experiences, it’ll all help you on your way.
Have a goal
Losing weight is always easier if you have something to aim for. Whether it be a holiday, a big night out or a friend’s wedding – have a goal in sight and picture yourself looking great as you reach your target
