US superfood for guilt-free baking

Friday, 11 May 2012 5:26 AM

Bringing US superfood craze for Chia seed over the pond, American-born Amy Ruth has created an innovative new mix – using ancient seeds and grains – allowing home bakers to create guilt-free and highly nutritious cakes, muffins, pancakes and breads.

Containing over 70% whole grains and seeds, Amy Ruth’s Baking Mix – a simple substitute for self-raising flour – is gluten, dairy, nut and sugar free. The now London-based mum comments on creating the first baking mix to use the ingredient du jour, Chia seed. “Chia’s appeal is in its nutritional punch. It contains more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon, a wealth of antioxidants and minerals, a complete source of protein and a high percentage of fibre," the firm said.

The new Baking Mix also boasts over 70% ancient healthy grains and seeds and can be found in Central America.

Amy Ruth’s Baking Mix is an all-purpose versatile flour alternative. Available to purchase online, at Whole Foods Market – from end May 2012 – and from a number of independent food shops, priced £6.99 for a 500g pack.
