Why you're not losing weight

When you're on a diet and the weight is coming off you feel fantastic, don't you? All that hard work is paying off and suddenly all of the cravings and the sacrifices have been worth it. And losing weight helps to spur you on to keep going and lose more! The problem is when you hit a brick wall and you stop losing weight. You've not changed your eating habits. You're doing exactly the same as you were doing when you were losing weight so what's changed?

Often, when we feel we're working just as hard and not getting anywhere we can feel deflated and be tempted to give up completely and go back to our old eating habits. But why throw away all of your good work? Instead you should try and work out what it is you're doing wrong and rectify it.

You're eating too little
If you don't eat the right amount of food you could actually be hampering your weight loss. By eating too little you could slow down your metabolism as your body tries to make your food last longer. This means your body won't break the food down as quick as it would if you eat a healthy amount of calories.

You're relaxing your rules and eating too much
Alternatively often when people are dieting and it's going well they relax their rules a little. They may start increasing their portion sizes, not counting the alcohol they consume or having more snacks in between meals. Even the slightest change could prevent you from losing weight. Try to stick to the plan that was working.

You're eating the wrong foods
It's important when you're dieting to be educated about food. You may know a selection of foods that are good for you and a good part of your diet but as you try to broaden your eating plan you could end up eating foods that you THINK are healthy but that are actually not very good for you or contain a misleading amount of calories. Be sure to check the nutritional value of everything you eat.

You're not exercising
Exercising is a vital part of losing weight so if you're not exercising then once you've lost the initial excess weight you may reach a plateau and find yourself not losing any weight or even gaining a little. Be sure to work exercise into your daily routine. Find an exercise you enjoy and keep it up.
