Monday, 19 March 2012 8:44 PM

After what seems like an eternity of miserable, cold weather, grey mornings and dark evenings the springtime is finally here! The lighter mornings and evenings and pleasant weather make everyone feel like getting out into the great outdoors and soaking up some sunshine.

As such, heading to your gym one the lovely spring evenings and slogging away under artificial lights can suddenly seem much less appealing.

But while the nice weather can make you want to give up the gym, it shouldn't make you want to give up your exercise regime altogether. Indeed, the glorious springtime is the perfect time to take your exercise regime outdoors. Here, we should you how you can do just that.

Go for a run
Going for a run in the cold weather can seem about as appealing as sitting in the freezing cold rain. But in the sunshine there's something exhilarating and uplifting about taking a jog around your nearest park. The flowers and blossom make for fabulous scenery and the lighter hours mean you're going to feel much more motivated.

Outdoor boot camp
Many gyms and personal trainers offer boot camps outdoors in the nicer weather. Rather than being holed up in a boring hall, you can join like-minded individuals beating the battle of the bulge and toning up outside, meaning you get sunshine and fresh air whilst working out.

Get on your bike
Cycling is a great form of exercise, working must muscles and giving you a lovely, toned physique. As with running it can seem a bit of a laborious task in the winter weather but in spring a bike ride is more of a hobby than an exercise routine. Get some friends along for the ride to double the fun.

Join a hiking club
Walking is a great exercise but doing it on your own can seem a little dull. What's more, if you're used to working out in the gym a gentle walk may not seem challenging enough for you. So why not find a local hiking club and join that? You should be able to find your nearest club online and once joined you'll be able to meet new people and try a great new exercise.

Walk to work
Finally, while walking may seem a little slow or dull without a purpose, walking to work is a fantastic way to burn off calories without even thinking about it. Why get the bus or take the car when a walk to work will help wake you up for the day, burn off calories and save you money?
