Dealing with PMT
Ladies, we all know what it’s like. Once a month that feeling of dread, anger, sadness (take your pick) descends upon us and we feel thoroughly miserable. Add to that the excruciating stomachache and the irritability that threatens to ruin your relationship and lose you your job and it becomes understandable why us women HATE that time of the month.
Some women though suffer from PMT more so than others. Indeed, for some women it can be quite debilitating and can have a negative impact on their ability to live their day-to-day life.
If you have a particularly bad time with PMT then you may find the following tips useful.
Calming scents
One of the most common symptoms of PMT is mood swings. You know how it is – your boyfriend only has to look at your sideways and you’re ranting and raving about how he’s always thought you were fat and he may as well just come out and say it! Calming scents can be of help in these situations. Camomile is particularly soothing and help to calm you down meanwhile lavender can help you to unwind and relax before bed.
Herbal Tea
Herbal teas can cure all manner of ills and that includes PMT. Camomile tea can have the same soothing affect as smelling its scent meanwhile one particular tea called “Tranquillity” can work wonders in banishing the blues and the mood swings and helping you to unwind.
Hot water-bottle or heat patch*
If you suffer from very bad stomach cramps during your period you’re going to feel pretty awful, regardless of whether or not your mood is affected by your time of the month. Holding a hot water bottle against your tummy or using shop-bought heat patches to soothe the pain can help and can make you feel altogether more comforted too.
Have a duvet day
Sometimes there’s nothing you can do but give in to the self-pity and give yourself a duvet day. Grab your favourite box-sets and those chick flick films you pretend not to like but secretly love, buy yourself a few of your favourite chocolate bars (today is no day to diet), get your duvet out the bedroom, curl up on the couch with a hot cup of tea and give in to your PMT. Before long you’ll be so snug and content you’ll fell a million times better.
Speak to your doctor
If you are worried that your PMT is out of control speak to your doctor. He or she will be able to help you, by changing your contraceptive pill or recommending medication.
