Four in 10 Brits 'plan Valentine's Day takeaway'
Has your other half booked a romantic meal out for Valentine's Day? Think yourself lucky... New research shows around four in 10 plan to order a takeaway on Valentine’s Day, rather than cook a homemade meal or go out to a restaurant.
A survey by CheckSafetyFirst.com found that one in six of people polled plan to choose Chinese food for our special day, and over a third of meat-eaters would opt for the unadventurous choice of chicken.
But these choices could leave the lucky recipient susceptible to contaminated food which can carry harmful diseases such as salmonella, listeria and campyclobacter – guaranteed to ruin any romantic evening.
Research shows that Chinese restaurants are far more likely to give you food poisoning with more than half (55%) failing to meet hygiene requirements.
The team at CheckSafetyFirst.com advise researching local outlets online - ratings are available on Scoresonthedoors.org.uk - and get recommendations from family and friends for best chance of an enjoyable takeout.
